Katie was born in July of 2008 nearly 12 weeks earlier than expected. She weighed in at one pound, 13 ounces, and was the length of a pen. Because of Katie's low birth weight, her mom Tracy was referred to the Early Intervention program by Help Me Grow. "I had no idea the agency helped out kids like Katie," said Tracy, "It has been wonderful!" When Katie arrived home after a ten week stay at University Hospital, she was visited by Developmental Specialist Mary Dreibelbis and Physical Therapist Barb Risk, who now come to her home every month. "They've helped out so much with Katie's development," Tracy said, "and since Katie's my first baby, they also show me things I can do at home to help her develop, like repositioning her so she crawls correctly and putting things out of her reach so she has to get them." Today Katie is over 18 pounds and trying to walk. According to her mom, she's a happy engaged little girl who loves people and is learning new things every day.
