Thanks to everyone who made our 9th annual banquet a success! Each year we recognize individuals and agencies for their hard work and commitment over the previous year. There are several categories; each with a award has a specific criteria for the nominee. Congrats to the winners:

Fitness BLASTFitness BLAST

Fitness BLAST, an exercise class for people with disabilities at Williams YMCA, was recently featured on"Dance Party Friday," a segment that airs on Channel 12's Good Morning Cincinnati.

Traffic reporter Bob Herzog attended the class and exercised with the group to the song YMCA.

"Bob's been a big supporter of advocates," said John Romer, "We love that he helps raise awareness!"

Advocacy group adds new memberAdvocacy group adds new member

The Advocacy Leadership Network (ALN) has welcomed a new member, Steven Anderson, a representative from Starfire.

Steven is in his second year at StarfireU and has made great strides in the past few years in becoming a speaker and advocate for people with disabilities.

"I spoke at a few schools about erasing the R word," said Steven. "I want people to look at individuals with disabilities as people and not just the R word."

In addition, Steven wrote an article on disabilities that was published in Streetvibes, and is active in his church.

Ready to voice his opinions, Steven is excited to join ALN.

Employees of Fifth Third bank, neighbor of Jackson Adult Center, surprised individuals during the annual Holiday Party on December 17 with personalized gifts.

"Fifth Third has been so great to us all year around, but this is just the icing on the cake," said Cherie Ankrum, Activity Director. "The individuals here were so excited."

Several Fifth Third employees also volunteered during the festivities, which had a catered lunch, DJ, and a carol sing-a-long.

Before the holiday break, individuals from Kidd Center performed "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" at a daycare center.

Tanikka Williams, DSS, and Karen Marshall, DSS, wrote the script. Individuals in the activity program made props.

Ricky Gardiner starred as The Grinch, Dezree Parish played Cindy Lou Who and Connie Douglass was Max the Dog.

"The kids at the daycare were very excited. They can't wait to come back!" said Beth Clevenger, Service Assistant.
